We buy a 5 lb loaf of cheddar cheese at Sam’s Club once every 2-3 months.
Last time we bought it, it cost $2.48/lb. We slice it into 1.5 inch blocks and freeze them individually in ziploc bags. I don’t pre-shred it at all.
“But wouldn’t it save you time if you shredded it all at once?!” Yes it would! But I promise there is method to my madness!
If I pre-shred the cheese, when a recipe calls for 2 cups of shredded cheese I would have it on hand and probably put in both cups (making my cheese run out a lot faster!).
When I have to shred the cheese when I need it, there is no way I’m taking 10 minutes to shred 2 cups of cheese. I’m a mommy so I usually don’t have an extra 10 minutes when making dinner. I might shred 1/2 a cup or 1 if I’m feeling crazy 😉
Most of the time a recipe is just as good with half the amount of cheese it calls for!
I’m not lazy, I’m frugal.
